Renault confident of points in every race

F1 Comments Off
Renault technical director James Allison said the team is capable of scoring points in every race of the season after Robert Kubica finished just outside the top 10 in Bahrain.Kubica qualified ninth and would have been on for a strong finish had he not spun after hitting Adrian Sutil's Force India. Team-mate Vitaly Petrov was also running well in 11th after the first lap but a mistake into turn 12 damaged his car's suspension and forced his retirement."We have a car that should be capable of bringing home points at every race," said Allison. "If we keep up the pressure on the development side, there's no reason why we shouldn't be doing that. Overall, I'm disappointed that we're going home empty handed because it's not a fair reward for the effort the team has put in over the last few months or the underlying competitiveness of our car."On the flip side, I'm pleased that we've met our initial performance expectations, which is the tricky bit. Our basic competitiveness could have put us sixth or seventh in qualifying, and that's a hugely better position than at the end of last year or at the beginning. It shows that we've made a proper step up with the car."Team principal Eric Boullier was also of the opinion that the team will continue to improve although much hard work lies ahead."Overall, we can say that the R30 is a good basis to work from but we're under no illusion about the amount of work ahead of us if we want to catch the teams in front," he said. "The whole team has put in an incredible amount of effort during recent weeks, both at the factory and here at the track this weekend. The team spirit is strong and we're all motivated to keep on pushing to improve even more."

Tough first outing for Virgin

F1 Comments Off
New Formula One team Virgin Racing endured a baptism of fire in its maiden grand prix outing, with neither driver making it beyond lap 18 in Bahrain.Lucas di Grassi retired on the third lap after losing hydraulic pressure and team-mate Timo Glock was running well until a high gearbox temperature forced him to pull over on lap 18."I got a great start and the car was feeling pretty good," said di Grassi. "I think we could have had a good race with the car that we had but then just a few laps into the race I had to pull over in turn 9 and my race was over before it had really begun."There's no point being downhearted. We'll be back in Melbourne with some new developments and a fix for the problems we experienced here."Although disappointed neither car made it to the finish, technical director Nick Wirth remained positive about the races ahead."We leave our first grand prix disappointed we did not manage to get either car to the finish," he said. "At least we haven't had a repeat of any of our winter testing problems. Most importantly, we now know that our faith in the all-CFD design approach was justified, as we have demonstrated that we have built a competitive Formula One car. That is one reward we can take away from this weekend."
